Foreign Ministry: No Foreign Pressures to Accommodate Refugees
Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Arrmanatha Nasir. Metro TV, Jakarta: Rohingya and Bangladesh refugees flooding Indonesia have filled available refugee camps. But the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that there is no foreign pressure in providing shelters.

"Essentially the position of Indonesian government is still at non-refoulement. Should any refugees enter our land, we provide them food for help. That is our position," stated the Spokesman of the Ministry Arrmanatha Nassir at the Ministry's office, Jakarta, Tuesday (5/19/2015).

Arrmanatha added, as evidence that the government provides help, on Sunday, May 10, 2015, there were 583 refugees rescued in Aceh. On Friday (5/15/2015), there were 750 refugees.

In total, there are more than 1,300 refugees in Aceh. It is evident that Indonesia, as a non-signee country of the Refugee Convention, still applying the function of refugee camps.

"There is none (pressure). The international world's request is for us to resolve this issue wisely," he affirmed.

According to Arrmanatha, the government had been involving organizations such as UNHCR and IOM to resolve the matter. In addition, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand are to conduct a meeting on Wednesday (5/20/2015) to resolve the issue. (Eps)
