Minister Khofifah: Govt to Serve Rohingya and Bangladesh Refugees

Metrotvnews.com, Malang: Ministry of Social Affairs, Khofifah Indar Parawansa is to visit the Rohingya refugees in Aceh. The minister mentioned that the Indonesian government is not going to abandon the Rohingya refugees.
 
"On Sunday, May 24, I will depart to Langsa (Aceh). The government will serve Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees during their time in Indonesian territory. This is about humanity," Minister Khofifah said in Malang, Thursday (5/21/2015). 

In addition, Khofifah continued that in her visit to Aceh, her Ministry is to keep close coordination with various institutions to establish and maintain the distribution of resources.
 
"The Ministry of Social Affairs will take part within the emergency measures by keeping close coordination with other ministries and institutions, including the International Organization of Migration (IOM)," she stated.

Previously, Indonesia has been appreciated by the United Nations (UN) for its role in handling Rohingya refugees. Currently, Indonesia has been providing settlements for more than 11 thousand of the ethnic minority refugees from Myanmar.

"This has been appreciated by the UN Deputy Secretary General, who communicated with the Foreign Ministry on Sunday, at around 9.30 - 10.00AM in local time," the Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi conveyed following the cabinet meeting at the Presidential Office, Medan Merdeka Utara, Jakarta, Tuesday (5/19/2015).
