Jokowi Surprised Jatigede Dam Construction Postponed
President Jokowi visit irrigation center at South Sulawesi (Photo: Antara), Jakarta: President Joko Widodo was surprised to see the postponement of Jatigede Adam in Sumedang, West Java. The dam was initially designed during the first Indonesian President Soekarno's administration.
"We know about this dam since Soekarno's era, and still unfinished until now. It's because the land settlement which hasn't been decided," Jokowi said when starting a limited meeting at the Presidential Office, Medan Merdeka Utara, Jakarta, Thursday (6/18/2015).
According to Jokowi, the development of the dam needs to be accelerated as it will affect surrounding areas, whether on farm irrigation or preventing floods.
"Therefore, today to be decided on the land acquisition and social management," the husband of Iriana said.
PT PLN had built 2x55MW of Jatigede Water Power Plant, which will utilize the water debit from Jatigede multipurpose dam, Jatigede District, Sumedang, West Java. Meanwhile, the land acquisition had reached 137 out of 147 hectares, or at around 93 percent. (EPS)
