Colombia to Study Conflict Settlements from Indonesia

Metrotvnews.com, Bogota: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi conducted a bilateral meeting with her Colombian counterpart Maria Angela Hollguin Cuellar in Bogota. Colombia has stated the intention to study Indonesia's experience on the settlement of conflict in Aceh.

In the meeting, Foreign Minister Retno was accompanied by a team of experts involved in settling the conflict in Aceh.

The study of Indonesia-Aceh peace process was started during the initial Meeting of Joint Commission in 2013, which was then followed up by the Colombian delegation visit to Aceh, August 2014.

In the current meeting in Bogota, the detailed discussion was focused on the current development of peace process in Colombia and Indonesia's experience in settling the conflict in Aceh.

"Colombia has also conveyed their support for Indonesia's candidacy as a temporary member of 2019-2020 UN Security Council," the Foreign Ministry stated in its official website, Wednesday (7/8/2015).

The meeting also discussed the plan of Colombian FM visit to Indonesia, which will also be conducted to form the second Joint Commission of Indonesia-Colombia and the finalization of several cooperation documents to be signed, among others the MoU on the effort of seizing narcotics distribution and money laundering, as well as the mutual legal assistance (MLA).

Both FMs have agreed to increase bilateral trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. FM Retno welcomes the Chamber of Commerce's MoU and the visit plan by COC to Colombia, as well as the establishment of Investment Summit in the country.

Agricultural cooperation has also been specifically discussed. Colombia expected cooperations with Indonesia, especially on the cultivation of rubber and chocolate plants. Aside from that, both nations have also agreed to conduct cooperation on palm fields management.

Indonesia and Colombia had been the coordinators of the Forum for East Asia and Latin America Cooperarion (FEALAC) since 2011 to 2013. Several partnerships established during the term is the publishing of Uluwatu Declaration, compiled of cooperations in economic, tourism, connectivity, education, research, technical cooperations and global issues within FEALAC nations.

Aside from meeting with Colombian FM, Minister Retno has also met with the Presidential Office of International Cooperations and the High Commissioner of Peace Affairs. (Eps)
