Jokowi Led the 70th Indonesian Independence Ceremony

(Photo: MI / Panca Syurkani), Jakarta: President Joko Widodo became the inspector of the ceremony to commemorate the 70th Independence Day on Monday (8/17/2015), at the front yard of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. The President was accompanied by First Lady Iriana Widodo, Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Mufida Kalla.

The ceremony, started at 10.00 local time (WIB), was initiated with the report of the ceremonial commander, Colonel Umar Farouq, to President Jokowi.

It was continued with the grand honor salute, where the Music Corps played Report Honors, followed by the 17-round cannon shots, sirens, big drums at the mosques and church bells.

It is then followed by the reading of Proclamation by the Speaker of the People's Representative Council (DPR) Setya Novanto, and a moment of silence led by the inspector. A prayer then was delivered by the Religious Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin.

The peak of the ceremony was the hoisting of the national flag by the national flag-hoisting squad (Paskibraka) divided into two groups, the 17 and the 8. 

Group 17 was led by Rayhandhika Renarand (West Java), Group 8 by Rocky Satria Pratama (Aceh), comprising of flag hoister Daulat Halomoan Simatupang (Riau), flag raiser Muhammad Faisak Sarian (Southeast Sulawesi) dan flag bearer Rani Noerinsan (Gorontalo).

After the flag was hoisted, a fly pass was conducted by Indonesian Air Force, ended with anthems sung by Gita Bahana Nusantara Orchestra Choir.
