Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: The Ministry of Communication and Informatics shuts down the websites offering pirated movies.
It goes following the joint regulation between the ministry with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights on the closure of Internet content violating copyrights in electronic systems.
On July 2nd, the joint regulation of Minister of Law and Human Rights No. 14 Year 2015, Minister of Communication and Informatics No. 26 Year 2015 on the closure of content of access rights on the violations of copyrights or related items within electronic systems.
Communications Minister Rudiantara revealed that the filmmakers are facing challenges on the copyrights protection, both the Internet piracy or physical piracy, such as CD, VCD and DVD.
"It is also part of the government effort to boost Indonesian creative economy growth, where the movie copyright is one of the focus of the Indonesian Creative Economy Board," mentioned Rudiantara at the press conference of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, as well as the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, in Jakarta, Tuesday (8/18/2015).
The act of broadcasting movies online (streaming) or illegal downloading are considered to have negative impact on the film industry in Indonesia.
"It is conducted to protect our intellectual rights. Government protects the art produced by film artists. There are 22 sites being closed as of today," affirmed Rudi.
The real action from the government was appreciated by the Head of Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI), Sheila Timothy.
"The sites are destructive to Indonesian film industry. We see the measure as a real support in boosting the potential of national film industry," mentioned Sheila.
