Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: PT Pertamina (Persero) is to decrease Premium product import as much as 30,000 barrels per day, or 10.95 million barrels per year in November 2015.

The import reduction is conducted due to the Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) Cilacap dan Trans Pacific Petroleum Indonesia (TPPI) Refinery in Tuban, which are soon to be operational. From the two units, Pertamina recorded the potential of additional production up to 91,000 barrels per day, roughly 30,000 barrels per day from Cilacap RFCC and 61,000 barrels per day from TPPI Tuban Refinery.

Vice President of Pertamina's Corporate Communication Wianda Pusponegoro stated that the consumption for national Premium is at around 29.5 million kiloliters (kl), where at around 17.1 million kl per year, or nine million barrel per month, was acquired from import.

"Based on the final checking, RFCC Cilacap is 100 percent ready to operate commercially, as it is hoped that in the second week of October, the project will be officiated for operation. With the operational use of RFCC Cilacap, premium import will be reduced to at least 30,000 barrels per day, or 10.95 million barrels per year, as equal to 10 percent of the import," said Wianda in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/30/2015).

For Tuban TPPI Refinery, explained Wianda, according to the government directives, Pertamina will begin the start up of TPPI refinery by the end of September. The company targeted the commercial operation may begin in a short amount of time after RFCC Cilacap operates with the production capacity of premium at the early level of 20,000 barrels per day.

TPPI Tuban Refinery in its optimum capacity may produce premium to at least 61,000 barrels per day, or around 22.27 million barrels per year. The number is equal to 20 percent of premium imports over the years.

"With the two units operating, the total potential of Pertamina's premium import reductions will reach 91,000 barrels per day, or at around 33.21 million barrels per year. With the assumption of the fuel price at US$60 per barrel, it means the import reduction will reach up to US$1.99 billion in a year," mentioned Wianda.

Meanwhile, Pertamina is also committed to absorb Vegetative Fuel in the form of FAME by the end of the year for at least 1 million kl. Moreover, Pertamina targeted by next year to absorb FAME to at least 5.14 million kl, where the mandatory percentage will increase up to 20 percent to 30 percent, from the current 15-25 percent.

"Pertamina's strong commitment for the policy implementation is crucial to prevent the foreign exchange flow outward, especially from diesel import," Wianda concluded.
