Metrotvnews.com, Teheran: On behalf of the invitation from Iranian Foreign Ministry Javad Zarid, Indonesian FM Retno Marsudi conducted a meeting in Tehran, Iran. The war against terrorism has become the issue of the discussion.

This is FM Retno's first visit to Iran, as it is also the third meeting of both ministers. Previously, the two had met a meeting in Kuwait, on May 2015, and New York on September 2015.

The FM's visit to Tehran was meant to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two nations, who is already well established. Both countries are to strengthen the economic cooperation, including energy and trade.

Aside from becoming the source of energy, Iran is one of the potential non-traditional markets for Indonesia's prime export products, including CPO, pulp and rubber. The bilateral relationship of Indonesia-Iran has been established since the opening of diplomatic relationship in 1950.

The meeting also discussed various cooperations on research and sport. Both ministers then signed two agreements: MoU on Policy Research and Development, as well as MoU on Diplomatic Training.

In strengthening and conducting efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, both ministers agreed on the importance of the efforts in sounding peaceful Islam.

"Islam in Indonesia holds an important role in the consolidation of democracy, putting forward pluralism, tolerance, as well as to battle extremism," said FM Retno in a written statement received by Metrotvnews.com, Friday (10/16/2015).

At the same time, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said also conducted a work visit to Tehran, as he met Iranian Minister of Energy and Minister of Oil. Joining the delegate were Pertamina and PT. Pupuk Indonesia.

Foreign Minister and ESDM Minister then conducted an honorary visit to Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani. President Rouhani welcomes the commitment of both countries to escalate the bilateral relationship, including cooperations in the field of energy.
