Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Indonesia is intending to enroll as the temporary member of the UN Security Council (UNSC), as many European nations have conveyed their support.

According to the Director General of Multilateral Relations of the Foreign Ministry Hasan Kleib, there are many countries which have already given their support. Indonesia is competing with Maldives for the temporary membership of UNSC 2019-2020.

"There are two candidates, Indonesia and Maldives. The selection will be on October 2018, but we are gaining support and optimistic in terms of the votes," mentioned Hasan Kleib, at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday (11/10/2015).

"There are three two way support, unilateral support as in the ASEAN gentleman agreement. Finally, written and spoken support," he continued.

Hasan mentioned that Indonesia is optimistic on earning the position. It is not without reason, as remembering the number of support given to Indonesia. 

"(More from) the European and Latin American countries have given support. There are EU member countries who is in the Security Council have supported us. We have supported them last time and have their pledging," he continued.

The selection of UNSC temporary member will commence on October 2018. Until that time, Indonesian diplomats will continue to seek support.
