Illustration (Photo: Antara Foto/Widodo S Jusuf), Jakarta: A change of mindset is needed by Indonesia to be successful in ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), said Indonesia International Chamber of Commerce Deputy Chief Sugihono Kadarisman.
"We now live in open economy era. Free market cannot be avoided. Like it or not we must join if we want to survive," he said during Indonesia ICC Media Gathering in Jakarta, Friday (12/11/2015).
Sugihono explained one of the views that needs to be changed is dichotomy between foreign and national businesses. "We need to more focus on the main objectives like jobs creation, purchasing power and welfare," he added.
Indonesia could learn from China on how to national industry in globalization era. All international brands are made in China. "It doesn't matter whether it is Chinese brands or international brands. The most important is it is made in China," he explained.
Sugihono also urged Indonesian enterprises be more aggressive to enter international market. Indonesia companies currently are too convenient in domestic market.
"The ability to compete in foreign market will guarantee competitiveness in domestic market," he concluded.
